About Me

I started Multipath Wealth because I believe that good financial advice should be available to everyone, not just the wealthy, and not just the already-organized.

I'm a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and hold a master's degree in financial planning, along with bachelor's degrees in mathematics and computer science. I'm detail-oriented by nature and training, and I tend to approach financial problems the same way I'd approach any analytical one: break it down, understand the inputs, and find the clearest path forward.

Why I work with medical professionals

I have a front-row seat to what that life looks like. My wife is a physician, and I was with her through every step of medical school, residency, and fellowship. I watched her work extraordinarily hard while we managed student loan debt, navigated her benefits and compensation, and started a family. We had our three kids during her training. I know the sacrifices that path requires, and I know how little time it leaves for thinking about finances.

I also know what a financial crisis feels like from the inside. In 2015, our youngest son was diagnosed in-utero with a congenital heart defect. He had to be delivered at a major medical center and required multiple open-heart surgeries shortly after birth. It was the hardest thing our family has ever faced.

Then our insurance company called to tell us they wouldn't cover any of it.

Over the next two years, we faced nearly $2 million in medical bills. We were buying a house, starting new jobs, and managing a critically ill child, all at the same time. We came close to financial ruin. We eventually resolved the insurance disputes and worked our way through it, and today our son is healthy and thriving.

That experience changed how I think about financial planning. I don't just help clients build wealth. I help them build resilience. My goal is to help you plan for the best possible life while anticipating and avoiding the things that can quietly derail it.

Sanderling Finance, and Multipath Wealth, is in many ways my way of paying forward the help we received during that time.

How I work

The name "Multipath" is intentional. There is rarely one right answer in financial planning. The best path depends on your goals, your circumstances, your history with money, and what trade-offs you're actually willing to make. I try to understand all of that before making any recommendations.

I also believe that simplicity usually beats complexity. A strategy that's nominally better on paper but requires constant attention and creates stress isn't actually better. I favor clean, tax-efficient, low-cost approaches that you can understand and stick with.

Because I'm fee-only and independent, I don't earn commissions and have no incentive to recommend a particular product or investment. My only incentive is to give you advice that actually serves you.

I work with clients across the country, virtually, and I have no minimum account size. Everyone starts somewhere.

In my personal life

I live in Columbia, SC with my wife and our three boys. Outside of work, I spend most of my free time in the gym training Olympic weightlifting, and volunteering with local organizations including the Spring Valley Rotary Club and the PPTT Foundation.
